The Book
Writing became another way of staying in conversation with the questions that shape my work.
The Courage to Be Simple — 144 Reflections on Loving the Truth of Who We Are grew out of years of conversations with individuals, couples and groups, together with my own ongoing inquiry into what it means to participate in life with greater honesty, freedom and simplicity.
The Courage to Be Simple
explores the place where personality, relationships and our deeper inner life meet.
Through 144 short reflections drawn from decades of working with individuals, couples and groups, it explores the forces that shape us — our adaptations, longings, contradictions, relationships and the quiet ways we move toward or away from ourselves.
Rather than offering techniques or quick solutions, the book invites a different way of looking. It explores themes such as trust, attachment, family, intimacy, projection, individuality, loss and belonging through reflections that encourage recognition rather than judgment.
Whether read one page at a time or in longer sittings, it is intended as a companion for those interested in understanding themselves and their relationships more deeply.
This is a small book packed with insight.
I kept returning to the reflections long after I finished reading.
Thoughtful, intelligent and genuinely different.
One of the few books I immediately wanted to read again.
